What the GOODSPRING BPS Does for Your Home

Two jobs, both at the main line so the whole house benefits. It protects your plumbing and your water heater from scale, and it takes the chlorine taste and smell out of the water at every tap. It does both without salt, potassium, chemicals, or a power cord.

This is the entry point into the Puronics salt free range, and the interesting thing about it is how little you give up to get there.

The One Real Difference Between the BPS and the BWS

The tank. That is genuinely the whole list.

The BPS uses a multi layered tank: an inner layer that handles the water, wrapped in a fiberglass outer layer chosen for cost effective durability. The GOODSPRING BWS system adds a stainless steel outer cover over the same construction. The internals, valve, flow design, and treatment are identical across the two, so the water coming out of your shower does not know which one you bought.

Where the finish earns its money is a mechanical room somebody actually sees, or a homeowner who wants the better looking hardware. Where it does not is the back corner of a garage.

"I get asked what the catch is on the BPS, and there is not one. It is the same ScaleMax bed and the same SilverShield carbon as its bigger brother. You are choosing a tank cover. I have installed plenty of BPS units in homes that could easily have afforded the other one, because the owner looked at where it was going and decided the stainless was not for them."

How Scale Inhibition Works Here

ScaleMax does not filter hardness out. It rearranges it. Dissolved calcium and magnesium get converted into micro crystals, and a crystal has no affinity for the wall of a copper pipe or the element in a hot water tank, so it passes through instead of building up. Existing deposits also break down slowly over time once the water running past them has changed character.

What that buys you is equipment life. A water heater that is not accumulating a scale layer transfers heat properly and runs the way it was designed to run. What it does not buy you is a change in how water behaves at the sink, since the minerals are still dissolved in it when it arrives. Spotting, film, and soap lather are hardness symptoms, and they need a Puronics water softener instead.

Nothing to Plug In, Nothing to Fill

The in and out up flow valve cleans its own tank without producing waste water. No drain line, no discharge, no electricity. For an entry priced system that combination does more than save money on hardware, because it also removes the two site requirements that usually drive up an install quote.

How Much Does the GOODSPRING BPS Cost?

It is the least expensive whole house salt free system we carry, and the number lands after the free in-home water test. Household size sets the capacity, and the install itself is typically straightforward given there is nothing to wire or drain. Nothing gets quoted sight unseen.

Which Homes the GOODSPRING BPS Fits

Budget conscious households, rentals and second homes, salt restricted addresses, and any install going somewhere out of sight. It suits owners who want the plumbing protected and would rather not think about the machine doing it.

Where to look elsewhere: choose the BWS if the tank will be on display, choose the CLARIUS iGEN salt free filter if you want the digital valve that manages itself and reports when the filter is due, and choose a softener if your complaint is hardness at the fixtures. The full comparison sits on the whole house salt free systems page, and Puronics of Orange County will test your water before recommending any of them.

GOODSPRING BPS Questions Orange County Homeowners Ask Most

Straight answers about goodspring bps in Orange County. These are the same questions our specialists answer on every free water test visit.

Is the BPS a downgrade from the BWS?
In one respect only. Both systems run the same ScaleMax and SilverShield, the same up flow valve, and the same JetWhirl dispersion, so the water leaving them is the same. The BWS wraps its tank in a stainless steel outer cover. The BPS uses a multi layered fiberglass finish instead. If the system is going into a garage corner where nobody looks at it, that difference is aesthetic.
Will it stand up to a garage in an Orange County summer?
The fiberglass outer layer is chosen for cost effective durability and the inner layer is what actually contacts your water. Garages here get hot, not extreme, and these systems are built for unconditioned spaces. Direct sun and standing water are worth avoiding with any tank, which is a siting question we handle during the visit.
Does it need any ongoing maintenance?
Very little. The valve backwashes itself, there is no salt to carry and no brine tank to fill, and there is no drain to keep clear. It does eventually need attention, and the interval depends on your water and your household volume rather than a fixed schedule. This is one of the lowest attention systems we install.
Is it a reasonable choice for a rental property?
It is one of the better ones. No salt means no tenant has to remember to buy or lift anything, and there is nothing to run out of. No electricity means it keeps working through a power cut with nobody noticing. And with no drain line there is one less connection that can be disturbed between tenancies.
Does the BPS soften water?
No. It inhibits scale rather than removing hardness. The ScaleMax turns dissolved hardness minerals into micro crystals that will not bond to your plumbing, and the calcium and magnesium remain in the water. Nobody at Puronics of Orange County will tell you this is a softener, because the manufacturer itself is on record that salt free softeners are not a real category.
Can I move up to the BWS later?
The sensible time to decide is before install, since the difference is the tank and the tank is not a swap you make casually. Bring it up during the water test. If the system is going somewhere visible and the finish matters to you, that is a legitimate reason to spend the difference, and we will tell you honestly that it is the only reason.
